We will focus on Addition & Subtraction fact this week.
We are continuing to do "Intervention" on Tuesday & Thursday (10:40- 11:10). We are dividing all the first grade students into six groups. The groups are based upon their test's results. If an area is needed for a student to improve on, s/he will be placed in that particular group. This week is the second week of intervention. End of this week, students will have a mid-test to determine if we should continue to topic 10 (Pearson Envisions Math)or stick with this new method.

We reviewed vertical addition and learned vertical subtraction today. Most of the students are pretty good with vertical additions now; however, most of the students still struggle with the subtraction. So, this week, we will focus a lot more on subtractions, especially with double digits where you have to use a number from the tens to the ones.

We focused on vertical subtraction today. Many students need more practice on "Borrow tens form its neighbor". When we practiced on white boards and the smart board, many students excitedly raised their hands and calcimined that their parents had taught them the concepts at home. Thank you to all the parents for making my teaching smoother.

During the beginning of this week, students were all struggling with vertical subtraction, making mistakes like the ones below (The first picture.).

20-1=21
20-2=22
20-15=15
However, after some practices in class and at home with the help of the parents; today, the students all scored very well on their worksheet. One student got 100%, ten students got above a 90%, and five students got above an 80% (The second picture.).
