Lesson 12: 你想吃什么? (What Do You Want To Eat? )
第十二课 你想吃什么? from wenling
Math:
Before
winter break, our students took a second Benchmark Test. The results,
however, was not as ideal. After meeting with all the other 1st grade
teachers, we agreed upon to do a method of intervention. We realized
that the benchmark test cannot test what area the students need help
with; therefore, we let the students take another test. In this new
test, the questions are categorized into different areas. By doing so,
the teachers can see what area(s) the students are struggling with. The
results, however, still wasn't as good as the teachers had expected.
After this, we decided that we should take a step back, since, it is
evident that some students do not have a solid foundation of math
concepts. For the next two weeks, we will not continue to Topic 10 in
the Pearson Math curriculum; instead, we will go back to the most
fundamental parts of math, such as additions and subtractions.
Secondly, we are dividing all the first graders into six groups. The groups are based upon their second test's results. If an area is needed for a student to improve on, s/he will be placed in that particular group. This will take place next Tuesday and Thursday. After the two weeks of doing so, the students will have a mid-test to determine if we should continue to topic 10 or stick with this new method.

Wednesday (01/21):
About 90% of students got 100% on their Math homework while only few students got 100% on class practice. Therefore, students still practiced on vertical addition worksheet today. We will still focus on addition for the rest of this week to strength student's math foundation.
For example, a lot of students will say that 11+19 is 20 instead of 30, because they don't know that they have to move the 10 in the 9+1 part to the tenths digit.

We only had few students got 100% on their practice worksheet yesterday and we had 8 students got 100% and 24 students got above 90% on class practice today. That's a huge improvement. I want to thank to all of parents who helped their students at home. Also, our students have done their best on learning and practicing. You all are the best!
